What causes foot/ankle pain?
Due to the many intricacies of the foot and ankle, pain in this region can be widespread with diverse origins. Common injuries to the foot and ankle can include both bony injuries (fractures) and soft tissue injuries. Soft tissue injury and damage is more common and can cause persistent and severe pain, swelling, and loss of function. These conditions include tendonitis (achilles, posterior tibialis, anterior tibialis, peroneal, etc), plantar fasciitis, and sprains to the ligaments of the foot and ankle. Other conditions that affect the foot and ankle include bunions, Morton’s neuroma, gout, and osteoarthritis. Pain, swelling, and loss of function involving the foot and ankle requires an in depth medical evaluation and individualized treatment plan.
